Fifth-grade Georgia O'Keeffe Zentangles with Value!

Fifth graders learned about the life and art of Georgia O'Keeffe. They learned about how she liked to zoom up close on her subjects. She loved flowers, skulls and sometimes architecture and mindscapes. We combined her zoomed up flowers with the new art of zentangles! Zentangles are basically doodles with tons and tons of patterns! Finally, we learned how to mix up tints and shades of a single color and used them in our background.

Lesson Objectives:
I can learn about the life and art of Georgia O'Keeffe
I can create detailed patterned zentangles
I can mix tints and shades to create value in my art.

  1. Love this project! As a first year teacher I'm constantly looking for resources and I can't wait to try this (or a modification of it) in my class! I love the zentangles and this is a great project for it!
