First grade Printmaking Architecture

First grade artists compared and contrasted many different types of architecture. We then created our own paper house collages

On Day 2 of the project, we looked at how many artists have utilized prints in their art! We used stations and had students paint a piece of bubble wrap with white tempera paint. The bubble wrap was taped to a large table so that when students set their artworks on the paint, it printed a fun snow print blizzard onto our homes!

*This project inspired by one found on Pinterest

Learning Goals:
I can identify the art genre of artchitecture.
I can create a print.
I can identify the art technique of printmaking.
I can create an architecture collage.

Kindergarten Monster Truck Printmaking

Kindergarten artists learned the secondary colors song and had fun learning about primary and secondary colors. We then got excited about trucks by viewing youtube clips of the upcoming Monster Jam that is coming to Grand Rapids in a few weeks! We were shocked at how those trucks and jump and smash other old cars and how sometimes, they even flip over! They make lots of tracks in the mud and aren't too worried about getting dirty!

We even had many giggles watching this truck video!

We drew sketches of two different trucks just like real artists do and then chose our best sketch to trace and color with secondary colors.

On the final day, we used monster truck toys and did some printmaking! We drove our wheels into some paint and printed them onto our frames!  What fun this was!!!

2nd Grade Da Vinci Invented Robots

2nd graders studied the life and art of Leonardo Da Vinci! They learned that he was practically a genius  in all the amazing inventions that he had and art that he created. We studio The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa.  In addition to being an amazing realistic painter, he drew in his sketchbook the first helicopter, tank and even a robot well before these were even created!

After studying the robot invention, 2nd graders created their own robots and used random gadgets to do some printmaking in the frame!
