5th grade Middle Eastern Tiles

5th grade artists learned about the tiles that were often used in Middle Eastern architecture. They learned that most of them are geometric or floral in design and are also symmetrical. They created their own tiles by rolling out a clay slab and then carving into them, and adding clay designs using the slip, score, seal method. 

1st grade Egyptian Pyramids

First graders studied the architecture of the pyramids! They learned about who was buried there and some of the art that was found by archeologists. They practiced blending paint in their sunsets and created a patterned frame with stamps and line designs.

People in Motion!

Fourth grade artists have been studying the work of the French artist, Edgar Degas.  We discovered that Degas liked to paint people in motion, especially ballerinas.  The fourth graders learned how to create figure drawings to show people moving in various ways.  Next, they used patterns of color to surround their people to create an illusion of movement.  Here are some of their masterpieces:

2nd Grade Rainbow Parrots

2nd graders are practicing their knowledge of rainbow order on their parrots after reading the books, "Tiki Tiki Tango" and "Terrific." They used oil pastels to blend some of the colors on their parrots then watercolor paint to show different values of greens in the leaves and vines! They truly are exquisite! 

1st Grade Scarecrow Portrait Collages

1st graders are working hard on their portraits of scarecrows! They used fall colors and then added raffia, burlap, buttons, and other collage materials! 

Warm and Cool colored suckers!

2nd Graders practiced with their knowledge of warm and cool colors to study how to make something really pop out! The sucker is made with opposite colors from the background so that it would be emphasized! They even put their own photos in their work as a collage!

1st graders learn about primary colors!

First graders read the book "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh. They created their own cartoon mice on a wall and showed their understanding of primary and secondary colors by coloring the mice primary colors and the wall secondary colors!
