3rd grade Egyptian Sistrums

3rd graders studied the art of ancient Egypt. They saw how some Egyptian figures in the art are holding musical instruments. One of these instruments is called a sistrum. It is in the shape of an anhk - the symbol of life. We used cardboard to create the sistrum and pop tabs with beads and wire to make the part of the sistrum that creates the sounds. We had fun shaking our sistrums and listening to that jingle jangle sound!

1st grade Magnetic Art Hangers

1st grade artists created these magnetic artwork hangers using paint sticks, clothespins, magnets and paints. They can be used to hold up papers, artworks and other fun masterpieces!

3rd Grade Magic Carpet Rides

3rd grade artists learned about the art and architecture of the Middle East. They studied the process of creating a Middle Eastern carpet and the designs that are often used. They also looked at the styles of architecture that is traditionally used in this region. We watched a fun movie clip from Aladdin and created our own magic carpet ride!

We even got to watch a short clip of the magic carpet ride in the movie Aladdin!

2nd grade Cartouches

2nd graders learned about ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics. They also learned that the pharoah would write his name in a cartouche. It was usually oval/rectangular in shape and had the name inside. Egyptians also used a lot of gold and jewels in their art and artifacts.

5th grade Hundertwasser Fantasy Houses

5th grade artsits studied the art and architecture of Freidrich Hundertwasser. They noticed the way he used organic shapes, interesting colors and no straight lines. He wanted all his building to be unique and incorporated nature into his buildings as well by growing grass and plants on the roofs and letting the trees grow right up through the roofs! He also became famous for his "lollipop trees" - trees that look like lollipops.

1st Grade Hundertwasser Lollipop Trees

1st graders learned about the artwork of Freidrich Hundertwasser. He did many types of landscapes as well as some funky architecture. Our artists noticed the way that he drew his trees - like lollipops!!! The worked on their own lollipop landscapes using overlapping circles. They now know how to make things look like they are close up or far away in space by using the overlapping method and by how far up a thing is on a page.

Kindergarten Reindeers

Kindergarten artists read Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer. They worked on finding and using shapes to draw him. 

2nd grade Fall Turkeys!

Using Fall Colors, 2nd graders created these fun turkeys!

1st Grade Dali Birds

1st graders learned about the unique artwork of Salvador Dali and how he created art from his dreams! They learned that his art was called surrealistic because it was realistic looking but could never really happen in real life. Our artists created these dream-like birds with super long legs while practicing their skills with blending. They chose warm or cool colored backgrounds and put patterns into the birds!

5th Grade Egyptian Friezes

5th grade artists learned about ancient Egyptian wall art called friezes. They created their own Egyptian friezes using Ancient egyptian rules for body positioning and correct human figure proportions. Then they learned about how the ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics instead of the alphabet. They used hieroglyphics to decorate the sides of their artwork!

4th grade Canopic Jars

4th Graders used form to create these clay Egyptian canopic jars. They learned about the Egyptian mummification process, and ancient Egyptian culture. 

2nd grade King Tuts

2nd grade artists learned about ancient Egyptian life and culture. They created these king Tut portraits with golden oil pastels!

Kindergarten Fire Trucks!

Kindergarten artists were "shape detectives" while looking at the shapes in a fire truck. They then used these shapes to create their own fire trucks!

Kindergarten Egyptian Cats

Kindergarten artists learned about how the Egyptians liked cats! They even would put jewelry on them and mummify them. They created their own cats with pyramids in the background!

Kindergarten Art Dogs

Kindergarten Artists read the book, "Art Dog," a story about our class puppet! Art Dog was a master painter who painted the sky like Vincent VanGogh. Our artists drew and painted Art Dog and gave his sky some swirls like VanGogh.

1st grade Middle Eastern Architecture

1st Graders are studying the architecture of the Middle East. They practiced their blending techniques with the watercolor sky and worked hard to put some patterns into their architecture. 

2nd Grade Clay Spider Candles

2nd graders just finished their clay spiders. We were studying the art element of form and we made these fun spiders using clay, google eyes, pipe cleaners and candles! They were such a hit!

4th graders in "The Scream!"

4th graders studied the work of Edvard Munch. They looked at how his brushstrokes, use of color and angles create a memorable mood in his work. Our students posed for their own "scream" and created a background inspired by Munch.

5th graders study Georgia O'Keefe!

5th graders studied the life and work of Georgia O'Keefe. They learned that she became famous for her ability to zoom up close on her work. She liked drawing skulls, flowers and nature. Our 5th grade artists created an artwork inspired by her designs and practiced shading and blending colors as well!
