3rd grade Heather Galler Patterned Landscapes




3rd grade artists watched a powerpoint presentation about Heather Galler and learned about her life and artwork. We drew our own landscapes in her style and incorporated a LOT of pattern just like she did! 


After drawing patterns with permanent marker, we used our knowledge of the color families to create color patterns as well as line patterns in our masterpieces. 







Learning Goals:
I can recognize the art of Heather Galler.
I can create a Galler inspired landscape.
I can use line patterns as well as color patterns.
I can use overlapping and size to create space.

3rd Grade Heather Galler Folk Art Snowmen

3rd Grade artists are learning about the contemporary artist Heather Galler who is a folk artist (meaning that she is self-taught!). She loved using lots of patterns and chose topics to paint that were important in her life.

Since we are in the thick of winter and many of us are enjoying making snowmen outside. So, we created this adorable snowmen with watercolor paint, sticks, twine, glitter, and even pine cones!

Learning Goals:
Students will learn about the life and art of Heather Galler
Students will be able to retell what a folk artist is
Students will practice with tying a knot
Students will use various patterns in their snowmen
Students will design a unique snowman with it's own personality

4th grade Graphic Design and Folk Art Patterned Turkeys!

4th graders reviewed their knowledge of the Folk Artist Heather Galler.  We noticed how she used tons of patterns and simple shapes. We created our own Galler style turkeys (inspired by Thanksgiving) and added pattern while thinking about balance and color theories. Finally, we talked about Graphic Design in the world around us and practiced designing lettering for the words "Give Thanks!"

4th grade Heather Galler Folk Art Landscapes

4th grade artists are learning about the contemporary artist Heather Galler, Folk Art, and Landscapes. We created our own landscapes in the patterned style of Galler. We also considered our use of color and thought about how to create line, shape and color patterns.

2nd Grade Heather Galler Folk Art

2nd Grade artists looked at the contemporary folk artist named Heather Galler,  They learned that folk artists are not trained in a traditional art school but rely on their own instincts to create their art about heir lives. We also learned about landscapes and patterns.  these artist created some fantastic landscapes based on the art of Heather Galler.
