4th Grade Mary Cassatt Self-Portraits

4th Grade artists studied the art and life of Mary Cassatt. They noticed how she loved to paint people, especially children! We drew our own portraits onto leftover laminating film and glued them to these warm or cool painted abstract designs.

4th grade Self-Portraits Mary Cassatt

4th graders have been busy studying the life and art of the Impressionist artist Mary Cassatt. They noticed how she loved to paint people doing regular things. These people often included children! We worked on drawing ourselves (as children) in a self-portrait on scrap lamination film with a watercolor background.

4th grade artists have been busy studying the life and art of the Impressionist named Mary Cassatt. The learned about how she loved to paint children doing everyday things in a style that was new for her time. We created self-portraits on a piece of scrap lamination and laid it over a painted background.

4th grade Self Portraits

4th graders studied the art of Mary Cassatt. They learned about her life, how she enjoyed painting people, especially children, and how she was part of the impressionist group with other artists like Edgar Degas.

Using the grid technique, they drew their own portraits and use oil pastels to shade and blend. They turned out fantastically! Here are some artworks in progress:
