Third Grade Collage Form Birds

Third grade artists looked at different types of collage, the differences between shape and form (2D and 3D, reviewed color families (warm/cool and primary/secondary), and then created our own form collage birds using paper plates, tissue paper, paper towels, string, twisty wire, googley eyes and other various materials. 

We displayed our flock of collage birds in our library!

Learning Goals are that Students Can: 

* Explain the difference between 2D and 3D art

*Explain what a Collage is

*Use a variety of materials to create a 3D bird

*Identify the various color families and use one in their artwork

*Manipulate wire and tie knots with string

3rd Grade Picasso Portraits

3rd Grade artists studied the art of Pablo Picasso in the genre of portraits! After sketching some portraits of side and front view faces and reading a book about his life, we used cardboard, clay and various materials to create our own unique portraits! 

1st grade Mother's Day Portraits

1st graders created something special for Mother's Day. A portrait of their Mom! They drew from memory and even used their knowledge of 3D Form to create a clay necklace for her!

5th grade Aboriginal Rainsticks

5th graders are finishing up their year by going back to Australian art! (We finally collected enough pringles cans to do the project). We looked at Australian dot art and considered how their paintings and rainsticks were used in their aboriginal culture. We then painted a dot painting in a similar style and color scheme, pushed nails through a pringles can, filled it with rice beans and such, then used art paste to mache it all together! We are making music in here!

1st grade 3D From Pigs

1st graders have been studying the art elements that make good art effective. In this project, they looked at how artists use value to make something light or dark. They used crayons to create dark green by pushing hard and light green by pushing lightly. Then, we took note of the differences between form and shape. Form being 3D and Shape only 2D. We had a blast making these little piggies out of model magic. We even mixed our own tint by coloring red marker onto white clay to make pink!

3rd grade Egyptian Sistrums

3rd graders studied the art of ancient Egypt. They saw how some Egyptian figures in the art are holding musical instruments. One of these instruments is called a sistrum. It is in the shape of an anhk - the symbol of life. We used cardboard to create the sistrum and pop tabs with beads and wire to make the part of the sistrum that creates the sounds. We had fun shaking our sistrums and listening to that jingle jangle sound!
